Retaining Walls and Abutments

We have combined our design expertise, construction experience and unique products to offer attractive cost-effective systems for retaining walls and bridge abutments.

Developed over 25 years and proven in thousands of projects world-wide, these solutions offer real cost savings over alternative construction methods such as reinforced concrete, mass gabion and crib wall structures.

A Selection of Facing Types and Construction Options

The selection of a facing type will depend upon the end use of the structure, its location and the required design life. Most major Tensar wall system structures including those supporting highways or bridges have a design life exceeding 100 years. In this situation, the facing needs to be durable but it can also be attractive.

Modular Block Wall Systems

Modular block retaining wall systems have developed very rapidly over the last ten years, and are becoming the first choice solution in many situations. The modular blocks are manufactured from high quality concrete, and are available in a range of colours, styles and textures. For further information please click here.

Full Height Concrete Panels

Pre-cast concrete facing panels that extend the full height of the wall face. Short starter lengths of Tensar Uniaxial geogrid are cast into the rear of each panel. Once propped in position, the main Tensar geogrid length is simply attached to the starter length, forming a full-strength connection. The exposed face of the panels can be produced in a style to suite the location and purpose.

Incremental Concrete Panels

Segmental pre-cast concrete panels with cast short starter lengths of Tensar Uniaxial geogrid cast into the rear face. The panels can be self-supporting or may require propping during construction. The size, shape and finish of the panels can be designed to suit the location and purpose of the wall, and the construction plant available.

The Dewsbury System

This method of construction uses simple components - pre-cast concrete or treated timber planks slotted into steel "H" section stanchions. This low-cost, functional looking structure may then be given a brickwork or masonry face to meet the aesthetic needs of the structure.

Marine Units

Tensar Wall Systems incorporating substantial pre-cast concrete units are well suited to aggressive marine conditions. The geometry of the face units means no propping is required during construction.
