Foundations over Piles
When you need to construct an embankment or platform in a situation where
settlement cannot be tolerated, a deep foundation is the most likely solution,
using piles or vibro concrete columns, which bear on firmer strata below.
For
this type of deep foundation, a Tensar Load Transfer Platform (LTP) can be
used to distribute the embankment load efficiently onto the series of piles
or
columns. This avoids the cost of using a concrete raft, ground beams or separate
pile caps. Usually the most economic solution is to form the LTP from good
quality granular fill reinforced with multiple layers of Tensar biaxial grids.
Alternatively, a Basetex tensioned membrane can be used.
A Tensar Load Transfer Platform (LTP):
- Avoids the delay required for consolidation settlement
- Avoids the need for concrete rafts, pile caps or ground beams
- Is a proven, reliable solution
- Can be used under ground-bearing slabs to avoid or minimise bending
- Is, in summary, rapid and economical to install
