Basetex

Where embankments need to be constructed over soft soils or ground that may contain subterranean voids which are prone to subsidence; there may be a need for high-strength reinforcement. Tensar’s Basetex range of high strength geotextile has been developed to provide the necessary stability. The large rolls can be installed in single or multi-layers to suit the construction.

Basetex is made using a weft-insertion knitted process. The characteristic properties enable the yarn to remain linear so that they are able to reach their full tensile strength without the initial elongation associated with woven yarns. Polyester has excellent creep performance and high tensile modulus.

Correctly installed, Basetex can increase an embankment’s stability against deep seated failure planes and so can be used to reduce or avoid staged construction and keep the project on time and within budget. When a project cannot allow any significant settlement, the embankment may need to be piled, in which case Basetex can be used to form a Tensioned Membrane Load Transfer Platform to ensure that embankment loads are transmitted into the pile heads which can be quicker and cheaper than constructing a reinforced concrete raft. Over potential voids, such as in areas of mineworkings or those prone to dissolution features, Basetex can provide a safe, early warning of the development of voids.
