From new taxiways and runway rehabilitation to retaining walls and noise bunds, Tensar Technology is able to offer economical and environmentally suitable solutions for airports and airfields. In fact, we have many years’ experience in reducing construction costs and minimising maintenance.
Weak ground? Tensar has the answer
Airport pavements sometimes need to be constructed on very soft ground – causing considerable problems for engineers. Tensar geogrids can strengthen weak subgrades and can control differential settlement, creating a mechanically stabilised layer for runways and taxiways able to cope with the intense loads from aircraft movements, reducing the aggregate needed, extending service life and producing the potential for significant cost, time and environmental benefits.
Resurfacing runways and taxiways
Where existing runways are prone to reflective or fatigue cracking and require resurfacing, Tensar’s asphalt reinforcement systems can be the ideal solution, and can be laid over most existing surfaces. Tensar asphalt reinforcement grids are able to inhibit cracking and the composite products reinforce and, can provide a low permeability barrier to the deleterious effects of water infiltration, to further extend the pavement life and reduce future maintenance costs. This low permeability barrier can also be useful in the event of fuel spillages.
In built-up or environmentally sensitive areas, steep earth bunds may be used as visual, blast or noise barriers. TensarTech Earth Retaining Systems can not only create a stable barrier, but also allow the possible use of site-won materials as fill – adding to the environmental benefits. Other systems offer protection against soil erosion in areas subject to jet blast damage as well as drainage channels and swales.
